Oil Spill Science Lab

Day two of our lab and we actually got to go through each procedure to see the effects of oil on salt water and fresh water, and simulated crude oil.

Step one: set up all three stations (salt and water; food colouring and water, cocoa powder and water), with absorbent materials (cotton balls, cue tips, string, tissue paper, baking soda, flour, soap.

Step 2: form a hypothesis about which absorbent will work the most efficiently. Will one act better than another in the salt fresh water?

Step 3: dunk materials into each bowl. Observe observations.

Step 4: dunk feathers and observe.
